Fires, earthquakes, shopping, sundry matters ...
The inquiry into the Victorian bushfires continues. Today it heard that the fires burned with the intensity of 1500 atomic bombs of the type dropped on Hiroshima. Bloody terrifying.

On the topic of fires, is anyone in California? There was the briefest mention of wildfires in the news here, then nothing.

And Italy? How goes the earthquake clean-up? Has everyone been housed? I need to have an extra three hours in the day to keep up with world news, bloody economic downturn has been eating the news cycles for the last year ...

In more cheerful news, anyone living in or near Sydney should check out Mulberry Street at 50 Enmore Rd, Newtown. Gorgeous designer and vintage second-hand fashion and accessories. I picked up a fantastic camel leather Gucci handbag for $40, the label was not a deciding factor in my purchase (more of a cause to pause, I prefer small artisinal designers), but it would normally have seen the price double or treble. AT LAST I have the prefect bag for serious occasions.

If you do love labels, there was a lot of LV product in the shop, a gorgeous Sass & Bide frock at a good price, and some Louis Vuitton black leather boots, classic styling, probably about a size 8 or 9, for $95. But even better, there was a really well curated selection of vintage. If anyone out there can wear a yellow large-checked Chanel-style 1960s suit, about a 10-12, tall, there is a GORGEOUS one there!

Bryoney is updating her giant H/D rec list ,if you are able to pick your top three from 2008/2009, go and let her know what they are here! Alas, I have not a hope in hell of picking three, so I just wish her well.

Penultimately, Cal is updating her fandom recipe book. If you have a recipe we all should know, or a food-related drabble, or would like to edit, shoot pics or do some test cooking, go and comment here!

Finally, there is an anonymous writing meme going around that some of you are participating in. I am rubbish at anonymous thingies, if you ever want to leave concrit for me, feel free. I can't remember if my settings allow anonymous comments, but given that some of my closest friends have hated at least one or two of my fics, I can promise you I won't be offended. I still like them, and I still like the fics.

OOPS, just remembered in time! that was not finally. Can someone please point me in the direction of the tentacle porn I read recently. You know who you are, flister! I went to go back there and had the biggest mental blank of the week!

Cheers dears, and stay well.

Oh, now wait a minute. *dies* This was my first ever tentacle porn! How could you know it was me?! Gah, now you've made me laugh so hard I have tears in my eyes and I just chopped jalapenos and CAN'T WIPE THEM! *giggles more*

Fire season in California is usually in autumn. It isn't that bad this time in Santa Barbara. :)

There's so much LV stuff in Asia these days - I like their very classic (brown leather) design for the luggages, but that's pretty much it :D - the colour logo (something-gram?) ones is *blech* XD. A nice, simple and classy "everywhere" handbag will be nice though *nods*.

Oh well, I think I'll stick to my ever dependable backpack for a while still ....

I saw the rec list! 3 fics from last year? No ... can't decide, that would be too difficult. Micie would have been able to make such a nice list. I miss her so :(.

Tentacle porn = Hagrid/Squid? I read it in Daily Deviant. Yeah, it's eeyore, I think. Loved it.

Good news that SB is not disappearing as we speak.

Yes, I agree, the brown is classy, the colour is Chavtastic.

And yes, Micie's list would be HILARIOUS!

It was Eey, I have sent it on. Thanks!

I am still glowing from the comment you left me yesterday. Not because of the good things, but because you were not only honest with me but wise with it.

Oh you!

I am just so happy to be able to talk to people about their writing seriously without having to manage tanties and egos. Because I live with them every day at work! You are a delightful contrast :-)

Just camel colour, sorry love! I am pimping the shop to all my RL peeps in hopes to keep it in business. JUST LOVELY stuff, and really well presented. AND she looks out for things for regulars, what more can a girl want? (A 1950s green crepe silk ballgown, but that's another story ;-)

When I have megabucks, I will bring you over!

camel colour is good enough ;) i think presentation's very important when it comes to merchandise - seems logical to me, but a few independent shopkeepers i know somehow don't understand this. they have lovely pieces that get overlooked b/c they're hidden or under a jumble of other things, or under dim lighting.

perhaps it's good i'm not nearby, i'd be burning money i DON'T have on pretty things :(

1950s green crepe silk ballgown, squee! you should share this story with me :D

btw my mum made me wear a frock out of crepe silk when i was younger that she had tailored herself, and i wish i could find photos. my mum's a genius with a needle - something i definitely HAVEN'T inherited [along with many other handy traits, sigh]

I'm in California, but there aren't any fires near us. It's early days yet, unfortunately.

And I see someone already pointed you in the direction of the tentacle porn.

You and your beloved Austrailia never left my Thoughts and Prayers.

California appears to have stopped physically burning, at least from what I can tell from the other side of the country. Twas quite a early season scare, though. And I wish I could say something so positive about the state of their budget...

Oh, that store sounds amazing!!! I have to get to Sydney soon! I think I'm going to Melbourne for work at some point. Maybe once I get a new car I could drive down...

Oh wait! Just realised, I'm coming for the second State of Origin game in June! Only there for about 24 hours, but might be able to fit it in...
blamebramptonblamebrampton on May 22nd, 2009 10:13 am (UTC)
If you can give me warning of what day you will be around, I can take it off, meet you in Newtown and walk you down!
nahimanaemerald_dragon8 on May 22nd, 2009 10:15 am (UTC)
That would be great! I will be there the afternoon of the 24th and the morning of the 25th, but I have to check what time I'll be getting in/leaving (I am travelling with my father - we always watch Origin together). Will let you know soon!

I don't even know if I've read three H/D fics in the last year. /o\
