Goodbye, 2016. And 2017, don't think for a moment we're not all watching you carefully
Frankly, it's been a shit of a year overall, with a few glorious moments of joy mixed in to try and pretend that it wasn't that bad, really.

Not fooling anyone, 2016.

And let's not pretend that 2017 looks rosier, with the US presidency going to a moron, Brexit still being Brexit (not that that means anything, but not that that's stopping them) and Australia still torturing refugees.

New Zealand and Canada, you are pretty much holding up the Anglosphere's reputation, and that with governments that in any sane period would be called tepidly conservative, but since they're traditionally so and not complete neoliberal morons, you're looking good!

At least we're all coming out of this with renewed resolve to fight against the rubbish. Here is to a year of standing up for decency, being kind where we can but not being quiet when people are dicks, helping where we can, doing what we can and getting each other through where we can.

And cats, dogs and David Bowie. Always and forever. Have the silliest, happiest song in hopes we'll be able to keep on smiling. Here's to a 2017 that makes up for the worst of 2016 for each and every one of us.

Considering our PM quit suddenly, and our new PM can't dodge a media trip up about feminism, and two high ranking MPS/cabinet position holders have also said they won't return.. that's well.. go us?

Your lot are at least decent to refugees and, while pretty grim towards people on benefits, not actively killing them, which is more than can be said for either of my governments!

But yeah, when Justin Trudeau, who, while hot and socially progressive, is hardly the poster boy for post-capitalist economies, is the best bet going, we know that most of us have cocked up badly somewhere!

It was bad enough when everyone was 'Well, they must have a plan they just don't want to mention because it's clearly stupid and will only lead to the enwealthening of a small number of Tory wankers and the impoverishing of most others, so obviously they won't want anyone talking about that…' but to learn that 'Plan? Oh, yeah, no, we're … um … yeah, no we're working on it…' was the case is just AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGH!

And that's without even discussing the emboldening of racists and bigots, loss of scientific research, upcoming demise of the City and the fact we all apparently hallucinated that bloody bus.

I don't know how you're not running around shouting at people. I'm reasonably certain that's how I'll be spending a lot of 2017.

I am doing- but it needs to be people who might have some power to stop this idiocy!

Excellent! Propriety be damned: shouting louder than people who haven't thought about things seems to be the only way to be heard these days. Power, motivation AND effectiveness is the trick. Alas, precious few of those about :-(

Drumpf is not just a moron, he is an evil fascist. We are in deep shit here, people. By we, I mean a good part of the world, because it's not just my country that has embraced hate, mysogyny, zenophobia, and more. What ever happened to progress and enlightenment? I am more than appalled at my countrymen, and would welcome their mother ship to come and take them away. Now. How did we get here? IDEK.

Fingers crossed. It HAS to be better.

AS you say, Trudeau has his good points (especially in terms of human rights), but the Liberals and Conservatives are pretty much both corporate lackeys.
