Author types read this
Sorry for bad typing, on phone and on bus. But just getting to the end of The Breakout Novelist by Donald Maass and it's a big rec from me. The stuff on writing all good, but the stuff on agents and contracts and deciphering publisher speak is utterly brilliant. Available on ebook and worth every penny

You're welcome. I wish I'd read it before my last non-fiction book!

He's an extremely well-known agent in the U.S. I know some authors who have done very well with him. And others who haven't. But his name is HUGE.

Yeah, he's very upffront about the fact that he's the wrong person for some writers, and that he can be the problem, which I found refreshing! He goes line by line through standard agent and publisher contrtacts with a degree of transparency I've never seen committed to paper before. Ballsy as well as helpful :-)

And some VERY useful checklists! I love a good checklist ...

I have had this on my wishlist for a while but never committed! He is actually one of the agents I queried when I was querying, so maybe it's time to commit. Thanks!
