Thank you!
Thank you, darlings, for the lovely birthday wishes! I will have to thank a few of you personally tomorrow because I am falling over in a bundle of sleepy, but I have been having a delightful day and you have all made me clutch at my pearls or the tile pendant I am wearing in place of pearls with emotion!

I had a fun ukulele lesson, and then played the great game of Why Does No One Sell Actual Food Items in Sydney when I tried to buy a cake or pavlova in the CBD. I ended up with something called a marshmallow cake, which wasn't at all bad, though I will probably have to donate some slices to others in the local area. Deense? sinden? pollymel? kaedhlin? Cake AND mad cats! Right near the station!

Presents from Mr B were fab, including tickets for the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain (again! YAY!) and an amp for my tenor ukulele, which has seen me cracking out the collected works of Mr David Bowie and a spot of Edith Piaf all evening. Je ne regrette rien! I really need to get my act together and record some uke. And a podfic. Maybe I could just do the incidental music for the podfic?

The other fab present is an oilskin riding cape, which looks exactly what would happen if Barbour started making outfits for Hobbit cosplay, with a spot of high-vis tape across the arse. Well may you giggle, but those sorts of details are lifesaving in the wet! I have a terrible urge to wear it around while walking as well, as between it and a pair of wellies, I would be mostly covered, though I should mention that the rain did finally stop this afternoon. It has no slits for hands, which I think would be an advantage, as I could just keep a little bag beneath, or hide all my bits in my pocketses and be forced to use my nose to press the walk button and shrug helplessly at people who want me to sign things.

And I keep surprising myself as I had a haircut and now I have a fringe and a Malfoy blonde stripe instead of a hot pink or red or blue or purple or any one of the dozens of other colours I have had striped in my hair over the years. This was a product of indecision as I spent so long looking at the colour chart after bleaching that my brain decided 'sod decisions, let's go with that!', but it is seriously weirding me out. My blonde moments have always been transitory and usually bearing the remnants of something punkish down the ends of the lock. I blame all the kids with bubble-gum pink hair in Newtown, as I had almost decided on that being my next choice. Now I keep seeing it out of the corner of my eye and thinking it's something white on my head. IT IS MY HEAD.

The fringe is a whole other story, and began as a sort of Veronica Lake sweep a few years ago and has been morphing ever since. It's now gone for something that is a bit 1950s schoolgirl, a bit 1960s Audrey Hepburn. My hairstyle is post-punk meets post-War. Sigh. At least it rolls up beautifully into a Victory Roll … I asked my hilarious and fab Northern Irish hairdresser if it wasn't too mutton dressed as lamb. 'No, you're fine,' she assured me. 'Until they get really close everyone assumes you're 12 anyway.' She does like me, she's just using my ego to fight a subtle series of revenges for Cromwell.

The cats have been very good for me on my day and even sent a lovely card. I suspect they had a ghostwriter. Moushka seems to have made it through the day fairly unmolested, aside from a dose of flea goop from us, but Cookie and Monster came to blows over a tower war, with Cookie pushing Mon onto the cat tower in defence of her prized ironing board territory, then deciding that she owned the tower, too. In all the excitement, they completely forgot about Moushka, who was able to come out and look at them quizically before looking at me as if to say, 'Thank god you don't have children.'

It's come to this: 46 and being judged by the cat who lives behind my sofa.

I am sure it is midnight where you are, but let me slip in my birthday wishes quickly. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRAMMERS!!! There are worse fates than marshmallow cake, ukulele lessons and being judged by the cat who lives behind your sofa. *nods* *admires the Malfoy blond*

As you know, birthdays start as the date ticks over the International Dateline and do not end until the very last country has finished with that day, so I have HOURS to go ;-) Thank you, dear!

Oh Vaysh, I am not certain I am cut out for blondeness. But at least it will be super easy to colour over if I come down on the side of not! My Everything Is Dark aesthetic doesn't know how to deal with it!

Happy Birthday! Glad you had a great day.

How white is your hair? I wish I can pull off such pale hair.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on January 29th, 2013 01:12 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure I can! Most of it is my natural dark brown, which is not quite black, and then I have a couple of inches on the right that is sort of Narcissa in Deathly Hallows blonde. I am contemplating bleaching it out further and just going for skunk/Cruella de Ville ;-)
宝井かりん: Draco - Vertetakarai_karin on January 29th, 2013 01:35 pm (UTC)
Cruella de Ville-ing it would be awesome.

Although I don't really like movie!Narcissa, mostly just cause she's different from my headcanon.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on January 29th, 2013 01:39 pm (UTC)
I adore Helen McRory, the actress who plays her, I love the coat dress she wears, and most of the accessories, but the hair and make-up are just ALL WRONG, and I think Helen looks a shade too worn for the character, too, though having said that, Narcissa probably looks quite worn by books 6 and 7, too, so that's not such an issue.

CdV is so wrong, but so right ;-)
宝井かりん: Draco - Vertetakarai_karin on January 29th, 2013 01:55 pm (UTC)
I like the way she plays her, but the way she looks is so wrong, I agree. My headcanon runs more towards Cate Blanchett, or heck, Tilda Swinton.

There's worse ways to live...

Enjoy the marshmallow cake and the company, cats and all, and may you have many more joyous years to come.

Happy Birthday!!!

Yay on cute hair! A while ago, when I let my demi-permanent color grow out, I saw A Thing sitting on my shoulder out of the corner of my eye. I screeched thinking it was a wee gray mouse. Nope. Just a lock of my hair. *headdesk*

*plays the birthday song on the ukulele for you*

Using the international dateline rationale. . .
Technically, it's January 29 where I am, so I'm not late wishing you a happy birthday. It sounds like it was a fun one overall (cat behavior excluded).

You said something about doing background music for a podfic. Are you thinking about doing that for some of your fic?

Happy birthday, my lovely!
Meredythmeredyth_13 on January 29th, 2013 05:56 pm (UTC)
Very glad you had a good day. I'm sure you look adorable, now come over here and prove it to me! I am clinging to my fringe as I firmly believe that the more of my face that's covered, the better I look (hence my thing for hats as well - I rock a hat).

I am entering a cat moral dilemma. There's a scruffy white cat hanging around at the townhouses near our local railway station. Coat's not bad, but a bit dirty, and the ears are scruffy and there's a huge fight scratch on its nose. It is DESPERATE for affection, and we have had big loveins two afternoons now. Although its coat is thick, it doesn't seem very well fed underneath. It's started following me home a couple of times, but stops a few houses down the road. I can't decide if it's just REALLY friendly, or has been left there / is being neglected, and isn't convinced that I'm a better option.

I don't want to encourage it, because we're not allowed to have pets here, and I really don't need a stray cat, but at the same time ...

Dilemma!

But on the subject of kitties, I'm glad Moush is emerging, if only to judge you and the children. And just remember, however many years you're accumulating, I'm 18 months ahead of you. *sigh*

A happy birthday from me, too... there are almost 4 hours left of the day here, so I'm only half late. ;)

Good to hear you had a great day. :)

adding in wishes for happiness from me. So amused by your stories of the white lock taking you by surprise :-)
