Friends, Britons, Countrymen and women oppressed by the Olympics (which will probably still be fun but by god they're trying to suck the joy out of it with all the attendant bullshit, aren't they?) I need a teeny spot of help.

If anyone owns a coat made by British Duffle Co, or shops anywhere that stocks them, can you let me know how true to size they run and if the cut is narrow in the waist or hips? Mr B is contemplating buying one and the likelihood of getting him on a plane is up there with the likelihood of East London ever actually benefitting from an event that's geared to corporate sponsors, so it's order online and I'd love to know if a 44 is really 44 inches, for example, and do they mean a 44 inch chest and a 32 inch waist, which is the man I took up with, or a 44 inch everything, which is the version I have now because I can only physically carry him half-way to the gym before my little arms get tired. And are the shoulders enormous or reasonable? And the sleeves, good for a man with really muscly arms or only for hipsters?

Thank you ENORMOUSLY to anyone able to help!

In other news, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to coffeejunkii, may your farmers market ever overflow with deliciousness and your joy in fandom never grow dim! And to ladyjaneva, I hope that your parents make up for their frustratingness with an extreme display of birthday indulgence, and that you have at least one pair of fabbo kinky boots in your stash. And also to remuslives23! It's bloody freezing at the moment, so I hope that you have a warm house, indoor ugg boots, and a FABULOUS load of fun to keep you entertained. May the present fairies be embarrassing in their generosity to all of you!

And in other other news, I realised the other day that it was 2012 and I now live in the future, so instead of bemoaning my lack of cable TV (because almost everything I watch is on the ABC or SBS), I went to iTunes and bought a season pass for my guilty indulgence: True Blood. The TV show and the books are like Cadbury's Dairy Milk. You know there's much better out there, you know they're shamelessly populist, you know they've declined a bit since you first tried them, but they're massively enjoyable anyway. This season's great joy is the Bill and Eric show. I really get why everything becomes all about Eric, because Alexander Skarsgard is so very lovely to look at. I too would be making shameless excuses to have him on screen. Happily, even in the show's silliest moments, the cast is very good! So I can just pretend that it's the contemporary equivalent of sitting through the Gravedigger scene in Hamlet. Gold star in rationalisation …

Finally, love cooking? I've been having the most brilliant time trying to catch up on Cate's Cates, which is catherine17's food blog. She's one of those foodie people who is all about the actual making of food for real people, and has a brilliantly inquisitive and rather sciencey mind, which leads to a lot of 'I'm just going to swap …' and 'this is X reaction in progress!' which means that there are loads of vegan and gluten-free recipes among other specialties, and you learn HOW things work, as well as how to make them work along the way. Added to that is the fact that she is simply an engaging writer and a really nice person and it's a joy to read. If you like food – making or eating – check it out!

I am not going to mention how far behind I am on comments and I have still not finished that story, and yes, it is 3am. Look, at least I'm consistent in my habits!

Why are you carrying him to the gym? All his muscles moved from his legs to his arms?

I have never been near a duffle coat.

I'd quite like to get near Alexander Skarsgard though

I can't help with the coat problem, but this bit -

"...and do they mean a 44 inch chest and a 32 inch waist, which is the man I took up with, or a 44 inch everything, which is the version I have now because I can only physically carry him half-way to the gym before my little arms get tired."

made me giggle for a few minutes, as it's very close to my situation too. :)

Oh, Alexander Skarsgard.... I tuned out of your post after I read his name ;-).

I've only watched season one and maybe the whole of season two, teyh're shown in German in the TV (and that just doesn't work), watching them online is illegal here and I don't have the money to buy the DVDs. One day my public librabry will get the newer seasons, and then I'll fangirl and drooool like there's no tomorrow.

I don't like cadbury chocolate, otherwise I fully agree with you.

I've currently gotten lost in the fandom of Merlin/Arthur. I'm late, I know, but I'm always on time in real life :-D.

oh, and have you seen this one? Drunk Skarsgard: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBybHKaNc8o&feature=endscreen

I've been looking right and left for "Generation Kill", but all I could legally find was in polish. I like that language, but my command of it is very close to nil.

Thank you! I'm so glad you are enjoying it (and I really must post more for you to catch up on...!).
