Amusing, and sad
Was reading Ring for Jeeves the other day and burst out laughing. Colonel Aubrey Wyvern's third-rate domestic staff are named Trelawny and Bulstrode.

Also, Happy Birthday raitala! And happy birthday for tomorrow, draykonis.

In sad news, Min cat is now out of chances and is living out her last weeks with all the salmon she can fit in.  The lovely vet assistant from the uber vet dropped round her pain meds this evening. She doesn't need them tonight, but it's good to have them. Poor brave kitty.

I can't imagine what it must be like, waiting to walk in one day and find her gone. It must be like a huge weight pressing down on you.

:(
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 7th, 2008 02:05 pm (UTC)
It's both better and worse. Because the tumour is through her windpipe, she'd suffocate to death. There should be about three days' warning of it getting to the point where she has to struggle for every breath, so we will go straight across to the vets and have her bopped on the head. I am going to talk to them tomorrow and see if I can just throw money at them to come here and bop her in her garden or on her spare bed. And then my little black heart will break and I will be very very sad, but at least J and I will be able to know she had a lovely time and didn't suffer.

So there's no way to operate, then?

Poor Min: at least she'll be living out her last days in comfort and style. She's probably wondering why you waited so long to bring out the salmon.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 7th, 2008 02:21 pm (UTC)
She did have some before! Just not so often ...

Alas, no, it's through her windpipe, and any operation that could remove it all would be too traumatic for her at this stage. Though we did both buy lottery tickets so that we could say to the vet: "Bugger the cost! Is there a miracle cure you've always wanted to try?"

But on the other hand I've seen people through their last days of cancer and at some stage the cure is what kills you. As it is, she is comfortable and having fun. That's something good.

I'm so sorry. I know how it feels like. The only comfort is the knowledge that she had a good life, and that the time she still has is going to be filled with love (and salmon).
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 10:33 am (UTC)
That's what I am concentrating on. She is convinced that, having liberated her from kitty gaol, we have decided to make our home into kitty heaven. Oh! the purring!

It is worse in some ways, because we are looking for that line in quality of life so that the head bopping can come before she is too distressed, but we don't want to bop her while she is still enjoying herself. The good news is that she is in no pain at all, and is having a jolly good time of it.

Very sorry to hear about your dog. I think seeing creatures you love in pain is the worst part of being an animal lover. Thanks for the sympathies, keep on rocking on.

i know you're ok with min's pending passing, but i still feel so sad. :( you're right...she is a brave kitty. *hugs again*
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 10:40 am (UTC)
Well, 'ok' might be a bit strong, more resigned to.

I would much rather there be some wonder cure that I could throw money at and have her come out the other side and be well, even if it meant I had to not travel for years and eat and wear generic brands. But since she is doomed no matter what, it's all about keeping her happy and pain-free, hopefully also stress-free.

Thank you for the hugs; I shall pass some on as chin scratches, she's not very huggy.

Thank you. We're just focussing on life quality rather than quantity this month.

I am so sorry to hear about your cat. I know I will be a wreck when I get the word that my dear Thad has no more lives left. Peace to your animal companion.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 10:45 am (UTC)
We are fairly wreckish ... Here's to a long and comfortable life for Thad and a sudden keeling over in the middle of a warm, sunny afternoon, years after the vet has begun to say "I've never met a cat this old and in such good nick."

Min is so peaceful she might die of smug before the tumour gets her ("Salmon again! And you don't mind me clawing the velvet? YES!")

I'm so sorry about your kitty. I'm glad to know she's home with you.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 11:03 am (UTC)
She is having a grand old time, so we will simply amuse her until the time for head-bopping is here.

Maybelline(my Siamese) and I send all of our thoughts and good wishes out to you and poor kitty. Losing any pet is never easy. Peace and be well

Thank you, and Maybelline. It is gruesome, but we console ourselves with the thoughts that she is very happy and not in pain, and also that she'd probably have died years ago were it not for us. Thanks, too, for your lovely comments on SotF, I'll try to respond to them tonight.

I'm so sorry about your kitty. But it sounds like she'll be living out her days completely spoiled and loved to bits. I'm sure it's very hard for you, though. *hugs*
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 11:07 am (UTC)
It is hard for us, but you're right, in her head, this is the BEST WEEK EVER!

Thanks for the hugs.

I'm glad she'll go with a belly full of salmon.

blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 11:09 am (UTC)
Oh you are a bad woman. In fact, Bertie Wooster is barely in evidence in RfJ, as Jeeves has trotted off into the country on loan. It's very funny.

At the rate she is consuming salmon, she may die of obesity before the tumour gets her.

I'm so sorry to hear that. But at least she'll have happy days 'til her death and is with people who love her.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 11:13 am (UTC)
Thanks. She is having a grand old time of it, the little bugger. We are both feeling far more torn up about the impending loss of our cat than we were when sundry family members shuffled off.

Thanks, dear. After an awful summer, Sydney has turned on beautiful weather and the garden is full of sun and warmth. She has clove pinks to squash and catgrass to nibble on. She thinks this is the Best Week Ever.

I just caught up with this. I'm sorry that your kitty is so ill, and I hope she can sleep in peacefully in her own bed.
How are you holding up? It must be very two-sided, being sad she is going and being happy she's not suffering and will not suffer. I think you are being very brave by letting her go and are not prolonging her life when it's not in her best interests. It's very hard to do so.

Love, hugs and kitty purrs for Min and you.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on March 8th, 2008 11:17 am (UTC)
You have hit the nail on the head when it comes to emotions in this house. Now we just wait and observe, and try to keep her as happy as possible in the interim. Thanks for the hugs and purrs, they are being well distributed this week.
