Are we there yet?

And in less cryptic news, a quick poll for English flistees.

Poll #1662253 Sting confuses me

Do you like your toast done on one side?

Only if it is subsequently done on the other side
If by 'toast', you mean David Tennant ...

Do you drink both coffee and tea?

No! Tea only, coffee smells like Satan's armpits.
No! Coffee only, tea tastes like the bitter tears of Victorian spinsters.
Yes, whichever I prefer at the time.
You mean to say there are hot beverages that do not involve chocolate?
And a tip: if you are working very hard, do not put on any music that has lyrics, as you will listen to them, and the results may be unpleasant!

Did you have a bad day dear one? *hugs*

Bitter tears of Victorian spinsters must be a Brammers classic. :)

Oops, sorry. Not English, either. Just dismiss whatever I ticked.

Oops. I'm not English. ;-)

It's all right, this poll is not used to generate data for the news. Though, given I will be checking respondees against the group I am polling, it is probably going to be slightly more accurate than the ones that are!

And so far you are the only Toast Done On One Side person!

I am not English, so I will answer here because I want to.

I like my toast done on both sides unless I am grilling cheese then I will forgo one side to save time.

I like hot tea and cold/ice coffee. I also enjoy a shot of coffee in my hot chocolate.

Aren't you glad I shared all this useless information with you? I just can't resist polls.

I have no idea why toast would only be done on one side? You don't get much choice with toasters I suppose, but under the grill or over the fire I suppose one side could be done significantly more than the other ...

*winces* Another American here... Sorry, didn't read the top before seeing the comments about the English requirement... >

All fine! I know who most people are, and can just sort them in the results. Extra data!

(And be grateful that Sting has no songs about your culturally defining characteristics!)
Susanlil_shepherd on December 30th, 2010 11:58 am (UTC)
I like both coffee and tea, but I could live quite happily without coffee. Tea, on the other hand...

Who the heck cooks toast on one side only??????

English, for the record!

Sorry - the clicky buttons sucked me in. Reading instructions is for other people today!

I've always thought he should have been singing 'I am STING in New York' because no other Englishman but him does that to toast let alone prefers it!

And you didn't have an option for not liking hot drinks at all.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on December 30th, 2010 12:30 pm (UTC)
Not liking hot chocolate is such an alien concept to me that my brain cannot deal with it. It's like not liking David Tennant ...

I think it was meant to be all about Quentin Crisp, and I can sort of see it if it is 1950 and you have one of those old flippy toasters that only did one side at a time, and you were impatient ... but to declare that you both liked it and that it was a defining cultural characteristic seems a bit much!

How are you going to prevent us deprived non-Brits from partaking in your poll? We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine (mine's a tea egg, so it fits both your poll and your warning; maybe the results weren't unpleasant because I am not working hard enough?).

ETA: uh, btw, you might be interested in knowing that I actively toast only one side when I make myself a shoddy "hamburger". Though my toaster has a one side option, which boggles the mind, I do it by putting two slices into one slot, so only their outsides are toasted. This is where the hot burger, melty cheese and watery vegetables are placed not to soak through. The softer side saves my palate from crumbly injury (happens a lot), so it goes on the outside. Only in this particular case though, I don't think I've done any cheese or ham toasts with soft outside. Hm. I wanna hold your haaaaaaaaaaaaaaand (which you won't if you knew my view on the man you compare to chocolate mwuah).

I'm for Tennant and tea.

And I wish you well with whatever is on fire at the moment.

PS Not in poll data.

I cannot stand coffee and do not see the point of it.

NOr do I like twigs in tea that is laughingly referred to as tea even though there is no tea in it.

But there are few joys as nice as tea and toast.
