It is pissing down for the fifth or sixth day in a row, so I have come in for a couple of hours before dinner and am sitting on my bed, in my thoroughly pleasant hotel in Firenze, watching A Room With A View.

(Though I fear I may be a chaste, old, Lucy Honeychurch.)

(Either that or a slightly better preserved Miss Lavish.)

Comprehensive update coming soon.

Miss Lavish had more fun than anyone, except possibly Mr Beebe.

Ah Simon Callow -- I never expected to know his bits so well. And I am filled with the urge to write bad romantic fiction about everyone I meet while travelling ;-)

Absolutely brilliant film! Ah...Julian...

His bottom has never been finer! (And I have years of filmic evidence to compare it against ;-))

That sounds sublime. Is there tea? And which version of Room?
Did they just have it there for you at the hotel?

I'm going to go wish I were in a thoroughly pleasant hotel in Firenze for a bit now.

There was super dark chocolate, followed by free prosecco from the hotel, rather than tea, which then needed to be followed by un piccolo coppette straciatelli from Grom, my favourite gelataria, even though the weather is stupid for such a thing, but they make it with massive chunks of bittersweet chocolate and it is the yummiest thing in the world. Luckily, I skipped dinner ;-)

And it was the one with Helena Bonham Carter, so Julian Sands's bottom is at its finest! It would be lovely if you were here, too -- I would watch it again!

You either have the most delicious life or write about it in the most delicious way. I think both.

I lost my heart to that movie as an impressionable teenager. I read an interesting review that praised the more recent version, but Helena, Julian, and yes, Daniel own those roles.

Yes, three times and for hours each time! But it is at least good straight down rain, so an umbrella was useful. And it is not cold today, so I am drying off very quickly now I am back inside. *Waves back!* I am off to London next!

I get in late tomorrow night and am there till Thursday next in the morning, off to Bath for 48 hours, back in London for the weekend, off to Sydney late Sunday. Don't suppose you're available and want to see Deathly Hallows on Saturday? ;-)
