Briefly ...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY deannawol ! All the best for the day, may it bring exactly the cake, presents and happy events you desire!

Today at work we received a letter from a woman in Queensland informing us that by running an advert for the federal government's changed laws on same-sex partnerships and benefits, we were encouraging moral perfidy and defying God's law, in support of which she provided a few semi-biblical cliches.

This neatly segued with this post from annafugazzi  that I read last night, in which she posted a link to a brilliant song celebrating Mad Bad Pat Robertson's infamous Sex With Ducks comments. I mentioned that they were the same girls who had written and performed the brilliant Worst Song Medley, then marguerite_26 , who is terribly clever, linked to this page, which contains a selection of their video clips. Sassy, sexy and very very snarky, I thoroughly recommend checking them out: Garfunkel and Oates.

After 20 minutes of everyone in the office being cranky at letter woman for being
a. a Bigot
b. an Idiot
c. unChristian, and
d. Ignorant of her religion's source material
we then had another 20 minutes of gleefully playing the 'Oh look! Tax concessions! Yes, you've convinced me! I will forswear the penis!' It may be that this month's issue will contain more typos than usual. I know who to blame.

Finally, if you are in Denmark, I would like to plug a gig that an old friend of mine (who I have, alas, not seen in ages) is performing. His name is Darren Hanlon, and while he may break out a piano accordian, his skill and whimsy make it more than worth sitting through any of his odder instrument choices (including but not limited to kazoo, banjo and balalika). He's performing as part of the Sculptures by the Sea event, which is the best Australian export since ugg boots. The website can be found here, or this may be enough for you to find him:

Australian Culture Weekend presents: Sculptures by the Sea

Aarhus, Denmark
Saturday JUNE 13th, 1PM
Sunday JUNE 14th, 3PM  with College Fall

PS I dropped my Old English textbook on my head a few hours ago and now I have an enormous lump, for which I can obviously not take an aspirin. If tomorrow I start posting My Little Pony slash, send help. At least joanwilder  will know how to respond to that ...

Squee!!! Thanks honey :) *cuddles*

And ouch! No dropping things on your head. We like it still attached.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 12th, 2009 04:04 pm (UTC)
*cuddles back* Have a great one!

My poor head has had enough serious injury. I am banning myself from the upper shelves and plan to sacrifice Mr Brammers in future.
Bondeannawol on June 12th, 2009 05:39 pm (UTC)
Definitely sounds like a plan, honey. I have had adventures in BBQ today (assembling, disassembling and reassembling) a BBQ. Just tried it for the first time and it seems to be working and there was no massive smell of gas and no bubbles so looks good.

You are too kind!
And that is so very wrong ...

Let's just hope that noggin hit was hard enough--I'll be anxiously watching...

It will be the one upside of yet more brain damage. Signs are happier for my brain health so far, pupils equal and responsive, no sudden upswing in my standard level of aphasia, no passion for pink ponies ...

*completely ignores the serious stuff*

You know Darren Hanlon?! She Cuts Hair? Falling Aeroplanes? Don't Want to Pay?

I'm fangirling both you and him like mad right now *has trouble breathing*

I knew him. Quite well in the old days. He used to crash at my housing co-op when he was recording in the last days of The Simpletons. Lovely lovely lovely man, one of those people who I regret not keeping up with as I should, and miss regularly.

He is one of those people who, even after not seeing for years, I would lend money, sit down for spontaneous dinner with, or let crash in my spare room for a week. Just a good soul with a great mind. And cute as a button!

For a little while we time-shared my bedroom as I was seeing J in Newcastle on the weekends, and he was down in Sydney recording on the same days. He was very clean and thoughtful, leaving fresh sheets and thank you notes!

Oh! And happy start to your birthday! Proper post will follow later when my brain is working more effectively!

If you start writing My Little Pony slash, I could officially say I was there for the cause of the brain injury! And maybe scribble my name on a bathroom wall or something.

*glares squintily*

I have suffered more than enough brain injuries. I *need* the neurons I have left!

*kisses your head better*

If you do end up writing My Little Pony slash, can you make it some dirty Applejack/Baby Moondancer chan while you're at it? Baby Moondancer can top, I'm sure that horn could be used in any number of interesting ways!

Was it an actual paper and ink letter?
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 13th, 2009 03:54 pm (UTC)
Thank you dear! I am still alive and feel no urge to write pony porn, so all is well, aside from the lump on the side of my head.

And yes, paper and pen and an Abuse of Capitals! (You can spot a loony at a distance by these signs ...)

Re: Darren Hanlon
Well, it IS the other side of the country but, on the other hand, it is a little country! I'll see if husband is interested in a weekend trip over there. There is a rather good archaeology museum that is also over there that I could try to use as a sweetener. ;)

Re: Darren Hanlon
Hubbie said yes, so we are off to Århus and Jutland for a couple of days. :)

Oh hurrah! I do hope you like him, he's a lovely man and his music always cheers me up!

Re: Darren Hanlon
Oh, and do let me know what is at the archaeology museum, I have a great love for your pre-17th century textiles and domestic items and may be in the neighbourhood in the next few months.

Re: Darren Hanlon
...I think the execution of Sculptures by the Sea has been horrible, though. The whole deal with the (- whatever it's called, our non-king -) prince's sculpture is ridiculous.

The archaeology museum mostly focuses on the danish iron- and bronze ages. The primary attraction is probably Gravballemanden, a very well researched bog body, who resides in his own chamber(/slightly sinister tomb). That part is quite good, as is of course the rest, but this is the only part even slightly updated in form.
The location of the museum is an old, newly restored manor - with a gorgeous park - where part of the Aarhus Uni anthropology dep. resides as well, and the anthropological collection is amazing. An exhibit on Knud Rasmussen is opening soon, and as their Greenlandic material is really very very good, it should be worth a visit. The anthropological museum in Aarhus does some of the very best exhibitions of their kind that I have ever seen - London/Dublin/Madrid/NY - rarely disappointing.

Also, every year at the end of July, there's a very impressive Viking market. They do a battle reenactment on horseback, all of them beautiful every-colour-imaginable Icelandic horses, with stunning horsemanship. And!!! - there are good pancakes.

(ramble ramble, bitch bitch)

You always post My Little Pony slash. So what's new?
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 13th, 2009 03:56 pm (UTC)
Do NOT! :-P

I have always maintained that Old English can be lethal.

Condolences on your poor lumpy head.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 13th, 2009 04:03 pm (UTC)
The state of my brain before exams in the topic many decades ago would support your contention. Head still has lump but that's the worst of it. And if I was terribly clever I would have written that in Old English, but I can only remember 'Cedmon, sing me hwæthwugu.'

"My Little Pony slash"

Surely that's taking beastiality a step too far?
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 13th, 2009 04:03 pm (UTC)
Is it bestiality if it's two ponies?

Quick, see if you can speak French again! And check your memories!

That's how it works in the movies, isn't it? Girl goes blind because of a knock on the head and then with a subsequent blow can see perfectly once again.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on June 13th, 2009 04:04 pm (UTC)
Alas, 1991-1995 still blurs, verb forms still shambolic. Bloody movies with their false hope!
