So Sleeeeeepy ...
And after all that, poor old Cadel did not win the Tour. Sigh.

Before I go to sleep, I am reading today's really, really enjoyable entry in the AS/S fest. Two-thirds of the way in and having a very good time, even if the author infers P.G. Wodehouse was a 19th century writer (young people liking PGW is a good enough thing for me to overlook a few decades between friends). But he or she has one spelling quirk that makes me a little mad.

A pouf is an overstuffed footstool (also spelled pouffe).

A poof is a boy who prefers the shagging of other boys.

Maybe there's a mnemonic there ...

A pouf is where u put your tired and weary feet.
A poof is o my god at the size of your man meat.

I didn't say it would be a good mnemonic. Just thank goodness that's an end to the cycling and tennis for the year, I can get some sleep now. Stupid time zone. I should be much smarter for the rest of the year ;-) Well, except on post-Grand Prix Mondays. Back to the final third, which I imagine will be as good as the first two, spelling aside.

I just finished it, and it was so fucking cute! Not in a bad way... it was utterly delightful.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on July 26th, 2008 04:35 pm (UTC)
Yes! I had the feeling that I could cheerfully sit down with that writer and we would get all of each other's jokes.

oh god, i haven't read ANYTHING in the as/s fest. i want to but i get discouraged before i even look at the comm. u_u *fails*

Today's is a good start! If you want to dip your toe in, I had a few early recs, and painless_j and marguerite_26 also recced a few very good reads. I was doing well with that fest for about five days, but this is the first one I've read in weeks.

I-I am so out of touch with AS/S now.. ;;

Though that mnemonic is kind of cute. *ponders*

You are so kind to say cute where deranged might be more obvious ;-)

I had really good intentions about staying up to date with this fest, but this is the first I have read in ages. It ended up as well as it started, though!

Lol, I could not control myself recently and was forced to explain to one author that taunt and taut are entirely two different words and a stomach taunting somebody is just not on.

Still waiting to be added to the AS/S fest so I can read, can't wait!

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh dear. Yes, quite.

This story isn;t locked, so you should be OK to read it: http://www.striped-wrappers.com/afest/afest-gift-crumbfreebread.html
and it WAS good all the way through.

Ooh, yay, thanks so much :) I recently found these incredibly apropos icons in a posting by mctabby. Hee!

Could you link me to this story, please?

And please leave the author a comment, the numbers of comments have been low for most of this fest.

I did that, since I loved the story. Thanks for linking.

Hehehehe! Awesome mneumonic - I admit that I've probably confused the two in my writing in the past, and will make every effort to keep them "straight" in the future. :)

A few months ago, I also expressed my surprise about this whole pouf/poof debate. I received a link saying how both spellings were valid to describe "sensitive boys".

Obviously, I lost the link. :)

And what do you mean, the end of the tennis. Toronto, Cincinatti, the OG and then the US Open.... It's neverending.

Oooh, the wonders of Google...

Ahahaha. Oh, my, your mnemonic. ♥

I have not been following the AS/S Fest (partly because I am writing an AS/S-centric fic of my own and have been avoiding other people's interpretations of the pairing until I finish that). But I may end up looking at the fic you linked above if you particularly liked it. :)

Thank you for clarifying that. I know I've messed this up a time or ten two.

I must write today. No reading, nope, have to write. *bookmarks*

i always thought both spellings were fine -- i've read real-deal literature with both spellings (with the gay-boy meaning). is the distinction new? or maybe with AusE, maybe?

i know poove is also a variant spelling.

who won the Tour? i'd google it, but it's too hot over here. :(

Actually, both as used to denote a gay man, at least in the states, and are acceptable usage.

We record the GP and watch it the following night - but woe to the media who sneak results in (especially radio) without any kind of lead in, after a whole day of trying to stay ignorant.

Hmmm, I will have to go look - I need fun fic, and can overlook that all her gay guys are overstuffed and like having feet put on them. Hey, for all I know it could just be her way of indicating they're a bit kinky.

The poof went Poof! in a puff of smoke when his pouf exploded beneath his feet.

I am suffering from an unusually late night too - old Spooks eps, too much pasta, introducing my friend Cherry to playing bass on Rockband, a late night attempt at making chocolate self saucing pudding from scratch (I used a recipe I had in my book for years - it turned out pretty well, but I should have thought to go find yours ... - you did include chocolate self-saucing pudding, right? That wasn't just my imagination? *headdesk*), and more Spooks, left me awake at 1.30am wondering why my bed just wasn't making me sleepy.

Man it's hard to type when a large Bengal cat is trying to pummel your tummy bulge into submission where the rolls of fat rise up above the laptop keyboard.

A poof who sat on a poof who sat on a pouf. :DDDDD That makes me happy and I have no idea why. <3

Mnemonic much?
I simply had to reassure you that I find your mnemonic eminently helpful! I'm sure I shall use it in the very near future. Thanks much for your fabulousness!
