Very brief birthday post
Because I have to run off and eat pavlova with Mr Brammers, I only have a minute and so the thank yous to very kind folk will have to wait short time. However, this:

is one of my very favourite artworks in all the world, and -- not long after hanging out with this one (there are several) in Paris -- I now have a tiny version of my very own sitting on my cabinet. Mr Brammers is worth his weight in gold, really, despite his little moments.

Mmmmm, pavlova. Damn. Have craving for that now.

♥ I hope you had a fantastic day!

Pop on in! He bought a giant one! There are only two of us and the cats ... I will have to ask the neighbours in!

Aw, that's a fabulous gift.

Happy birthday!

It is! He's a good lad. Thanks, dear!

The combination of pavlova and polar bears (at least artwork, not so sure about the animate version) is indeed winning.

Happy birthday!
blamebramptonblamebrampton on January 29th, 2010 01:52 pm (UTC)
I have always wanted to see a real polar bear in the wild, but from a boat, those things are big and scary! The sculpture is a delight, though. And thank you!
Astaastarael02 on January 29th, 2010 12:50 pm (UTC)
Is that polar bear artwork you saw in Paris a life-size ice sculpture which melts to show an actual polar bear skeleton underneath? If so, I saw one in Trafalgar Square, half melted! I absolutely loved it :D
blamebramptonblamebrampton on January 29th, 2010 01:58 pm (UTC)
OOOOH! No, it's one of the François Pompon polar bears (the shot is of the stone version in the Musee d'Orsay, which I have to say I would have hugged and kissed if I thought I could get away with it, while the model is after the one in the Metropolitan Museum of Art). But I am kicking myself for not slowing down in Trafalgar Square as I saw that bear there! Alas, surrounded by climate activists all being opinionated, so I fled to the National Gallery.

Happy Birthday!
Well done, Mr. B! What a great and thoughtful gift.
I hope this new year of life brings you lots more sweet surprises like this one!

Re: Happy Birthday!
Is that actual Merlin under there? BRILLIANT! Thank you very much, it has been a very lovely day, so if it's the model for the year I hope we will have world peace and speedboats all round by August.

Hurrah for J!
Small Girl says happy birthday, and she is very concerned that you might not have cake (she wanted to bake one for you, and we had to have a chat about the incompatability of icing and the postal service).

Thanks, SG! Reassure her that we had a lovely sponge slathered in jam and cream at work, and then pavlova at home. I am dying of sugar and lactose ;-)

If she has excess cake making energy, she and Blondie should obviously make you one!

Happiest of Happies!!!

I hope you've had a frabjous day. Best of luck and creative production for the coming natal year!

Finish your submission oh once and future Next Gen Band! And thank you very much, it was a lovely day indeed. Alas, I ate pavlova and wrote comments rather than did anything creative, but tomorrow!

Thank you! Oh, has anything arrived for you in the post yet? I suspect Australia Post of criminal slowness ...

Day has been spectacular, though, Mr B even did the dishes!

Thank you, and thank you! And push is a genius chatterer. If you can ever get your hands on her (she is a vigorous traveller, so not as hard as you might think), I recommend plying her with a cocktail or two ;-)

Happy birthday! And that piece is amazing - it blew me away when I saw it. I need to ask Mr Brammers where he got yours, because that so would be a great present for my boy... :)
blamebramptonblamebrampton on January 29th, 2010 02:09 pm (UTC)
You can get them here in two sizes: http://store.metmuseum.org/Sculpture/Large-and-Small-Polar-Bear-Set/invt/06009823

I had been coveting one from the Sydney store for a while, and he noticed, bless.

I have some more photos from different angles if you would like them, do let me know your email! And thank you! In my family we start celebrating when it's your birthday in New Zealand and finish when it ends in Hawaii, so you are not late at all!

I'm a bit late, but...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

I hope it was a fabulous day. *warm hug*
blamebramptonblamebrampton on February 1st, 2010 09:57 pm (UTC)
You were completely on time for the Brammers' family definition of birthday, which starts in New Zealand and ends in Hawaii (or, for ones with a 0 or 5, when the cake is done, which ever is later). Thank you, and it was! *Warm hug back!*
