It's quarter to three in the morning ...
And I cannot go to bed as the last wicket is still to fall.

I know that Americans, Canadians and many Europeans are unable to fathom why we care so much about the Ashes. It's akin to a war, mixed with the Olympics, mixed with the bedrock or national pride.

I will say that the Australian team can hold their heads high at the way they have doggedly fought through this innings. Now if they could just lose so I can go to sleep!

ETA: THEY DID IT! THEY DID IT! WHO NEEDS SLEEP? Bless you Flintoff, you are a gem.

Sleep well :-)
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 04:51 pm (UTC)
I'm not sure I can, now. Maybe if I let myself dream of Stuart Broad ...
rosathome on August 23rd, 2009 04:51 pm (UTC)
Goodnight!
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 04:54 pm (UTC)
Hurrah! *Runs off to shower and hopes to dream of Stuart Broad (who even my straight Aussie male friend described as 'immensely fanciable' last night)
cassie_blackcassie_black12 on August 23rd, 2009 04:58 pm (UTC)
Can't believe they won. I too plan to dream of Stuart Broad - and maybe Freddie Flintoff, too.
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 05:00 pm (UTC)
Not quite pretty enough (though as a gum-chewing bit of rough ...)
Loyaulte Me Lie: middlesexshocolate on August 23rd, 2009 05:10 pm (UTC)
get some sleep - you have a lot of people to annoy in the morning!
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 05:13 pm (UTC)
I plan to be dignified and gracious. Though I have sadly realised that I really am too short for Stuart Broad. And old enough to be his mother. Ooh, Ricky Ponting ... living on the edge with that speech ...
Loyaulte Me Lie: fantasticshocolate on August 23rd, 2009 05:19 pm (UTC)
being dignified and gracious will certainly annoy them!

I'm 5'11"... but a tad venerable...
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 10:36 pm (UTC)
5'1" and a bit. I'd strain my neck.
Loyaulte Me Lie: taller than meshocolate on August 23rd, 2009 10:54 pm (UTC)
I could wear heels and still tip my head back... to see him backing away in horror!
ozdobeozdobe on August 23rd, 2009 05:23 pm (UTC)
I am so out of touch with Aussie cricketers, but Ricky Ponting, really? He has an elfin touch to his face, and those cricket-shaped bodies are way so much better than those ugly baseball bods they have over here... yuk! All steroids and plain ugly fat gross uglies, and they also have their bald spots (hahaha)
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 10:35 pm (UTC)
It was his speech that was dangerously close to inciting the crowd, but he managed to pull up before impact with the Oval.

But yes, cricketers since Shane Warne's retirement are generally slimmer and more haired ;-)

It was great! So much fun. :D
glorafinglorafin on August 23rd, 2009 07:09 pm (UTC)
I was convinced you were Australian, but no real Australian would jump from joy when their beloved country lost the Ashes, so now I'm confused.

(and your fantasy Estonian citizenship does not help :)

English lass with Australian mother who popped over for a visit to mater and to check out the marsupials, met a strapping Aussie lad and found herself coping with 40-degree summers ;-)

*cough*

I am definitely an Australian, and am seriously happy that England won the ashes. :D

I confess that cricket remains shrouded in mystery to me, but had I known that they let pretty boys like Mr Broad play I would have been more attentive.
*cheers for England*
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 10:34 pm (UTC)
Ah ... Stuart ...

Sorry, did you say something?

I knew I shoul
feralcheryl on August 23rd, 2009 10:12 pm (UTC)
Bah.
I knew I should have put $100 on England when the bookies had the poms at $5.25 and the aussies at $1.25.
*mutter mutter bloody poms mutter mutter*
blamebramptonblamebrampton on August 23rd, 2009 10:33 pm (UTC)
I would have, but then they would have collapsed in a screaming heap.

Philip Tufnell apparently predicted the results with scary accuracy, I'd use him as a betting guide in future ...
Meredythmeredyth_13 on August 24th, 2009 12:24 am (UTC)
I am ridiculously happy that England won the ashes. :D
rubyemerald_1 on August 24th, 2009 07:57 am (UTC)
Well. Can't say i join you in the celebrations. I'm FURIOUS with Ricky Ponting for being run out. I'm FURIOUS with Freddie Flintoff for recreating the crucifiction every time he did what he was there to do, and I'm FURIOUS with the wicket for being drier than the Simpson Desert. Now, if you'll excuse me, I too have some daydreams to create concerning Stuart not-so Broad but ever-so -tall.
rubyemerald_1 on August 25th, 2009 09:25 pm (UTC)
Crucifixion Oops.
lyraslyras on August 24th, 2009 10:17 am (UTC)
Oh, if only I had thought at 10 pm last night that we might get eight wickets in the afternoon! I was completely expecting to get up this morning and find we had the last couple of wickets to get, and then I could watch us win.

Ah, well. Hope you had a good day's celebrating. :D

Stuart Broad
For the last coupld of years I haven't really paid that much attention to the cricket (a game which I understand really well). Anwyway so after reading throught your comments I decided to google this Stuart Broad, and this is what I found.

I am rather impressed with the whole kit myself.
